Taking up Space with Wylde + Lowe Boutique Salon

Stylist Sarah Sheppard is based in the North Shore area of Massachusetts. She’s an accomplished stylist and an educator in her field. For many years she paid her dues and worked in your standard hair salon where she was paid a percentage of all services she rendered on site. As her clientele grew she became more savvy and she realized that she wanted more control over her business. Sarah took a leap and moved to a chair rental style salon. To share a bit more information about chair rentals. It’s like a collective of stylist all under one roof and often under one brand but operating as individual businesses. They pay a set rent for their chair in the salon and then run their own business as individuals.

For Sarah this change gave her more control over her clients, pricing, and along with schedule. She knew she was ready to for this next step because she had become well established in her local area and her bookings were consistent. This means she could look ahead at upcoming revenue to know that should could take on the responsibility of a rental payment for her chair within the salon. As time passed Sarah settled into the chair rental business model where she had complete control over the infrastructure of her business. She handled bookings, transactions, and services for her clients. She even took on an assistant who would support her and help take care of her clients needs at her direction. The owners of the salon were great. They kept the location in pristine condition and the decor and ambiance was meticulously designed with client experience in mind. Sarah could run her business how she would like while offering a clean and beautiful salon for her clients without the responsibility of also running the salon.

As the pandemic unfolded like many businesses salons were closed. Eventually salons were allowed to open again but their occupancy rates were slashed to keep social distance to prevent the spread of covid. These changes became the catalyst for Sarah’s next big move. She rented her own suite at a Sola Salon to offer her clients a private salon experience. Sola Salon is similar to chair rental but instead of just a chair you get your own suite that you can design however you like. It’s also private which really helped to minimize potential covid exposure to Sarah and her clients.

This was the next organic step in Sarah’s entrepreneurial journey. Now she would have creative control over her physical space as well as full control over her business. Sometime doing things in steps breaks it down into more manageable parts. Sarah’s natural progression from salon stylist to studio owner lead the way to Wylde + Lowe a boutique salon. Named after her daughters Harlowe and Wylder Sarah has poured her heart and history into this brick and mortar space. You’ll see her Mexican roots shine through with touches of southwestern style pairing pops of cacti and earthy tones.

It’s been a joy to watch Sarah’s journey from salon stylist to boutique salon owner. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
